Finding your way in the console

The console's tabs, the account menu, and the obsolete Legacy console.

Joripo documentation · https://joripo.com/docs/getting-started/the-console

On this page

The console is where everything except data collection happens. Its tabs are on the left of every page: Design, Collect, Monitor and Export, with Configure (the gear) below them. Each tab shows your forms straight away, grouped by workspace.

The tabs

  • Design is where you land: every form, in its workspace and group. Each form has Test, Edit, Upload (a revised form definition) and Download in sight, and Tools, Encryption, Duplicate and Delete under More. Create form, Create group and Create workspace are at the top. See Designing forms.
  • Collect holds each workspace's web data collection, its field team (data collectors, Joripo Collect phones and device keys) and its case list, then each form's web link and who may use it. See Collecting data.
  • Monitor shows where things stand (workspaces, forms, submissions, open quality findings), then each form's submissions, the Data Explorer, its quality checks and reports, and what needs attention. Published field-monitoring dashboards are listed at the top. See Monitoring and quality checks.
  • Export gives each form's Download data (format, layout, language, which submissions) and every other file. See Exporting data.
  • Configure holds the server settings, People, the organisation, Plan & usage, API tokens and computers, the Activity log and each workspace's settings, external access, privacy and garbling. A workspace's own pages are also in its menu (☰) on the Design page.

The account menu

Your initials, top right, open the account menu. It holds only your own things: the light or dark theme, your password, Joripo Desktop, help, and Sign out, which signs you out in every browser.

What you see depends on your role

The console shows each person exactly the controls the server accepts from them. A reviewer, for example, sees no Deploy and no Delete, because the server would refuse them. Something that belongs to another organisation, or to a workspace you are not assigned to, is simply not found: the server answers as if it did not exist, so its existence is never confirmed. See Roles and permissions.

Data collectors never use the console. If one signs in on the web, they see a page that tells them how to collect, and any announcements from the server's maintainer.

The Legacy console

The older layout, with the tabs numbered 0 to 4 and Discover first, is obsolete and no longer maintained; every page of it says so. It is still reachable from Legacy console (obsolete) in the account menu, and Back to Joripo 2.0 on any of its pages returns. Both consoles show the same data with the same permissions; switching changes nothing.

Help on every screen

Each area of the console has a help page at /help, written in the words you see on screen. This documentation goes further: it explains how each feature works, what it does not do, and how the pieces fit together.
