Collecting data

Web forms

Collecting in a browser from a link, signed in or anonymous, the workspace's on/off switch, and each form's web settings.

Joripo documentation · https://joripo.com/docs/collecting-data/web-forms

On this page

Every deployed form can be filled in a browser. Its link (Share on Collect) opens the form on the same engine as the tester and Joripo Collect, and the submission is stored and checked on your server like any other.

  • With Allow anonymous form access off (the default), people must sign in to your server first, as a member of your organisation who collects in that workspace: an owner, a manager or a data collector. Reviewers do not collect, and an external client never does.
  • With it on (the form's Anonymous access switch, or Change form settings), anyone with the link can fill it in.
  • The workspace's Web data collection switch turns every web form in the workspace off or on at once. Off, no link opens, whoever asks.

A signed-in person's web forms open only in the workspaces they collect in. A web form fills the username field with the signed-in account and leaves deviceid blank.

Change form settings

Each form on Collect has Change form settings. Each switch changes what its web form does:

  • Auto-detect browser language: opens the form in the respondent's browser language when the form has it.
  • Finalize and accept incomplete submissions: a respondent may submit with required questions unanswered, after confirming. An answer that breaks a constraint must still be corrected.
  • Allow non-linear form navigation: off, only Next and Previous. Allow the Go To menu, Allow jump to start and Allow jump to end each show one of those controls.
  • Allow skip to next: Options › Skip to next moves on without answering.
  • Show location within groups: the line above the questions names the group the respondent is in.
  • Override default form width: a width in pixels on a computer screen; a phone keeps its own.
  • Allow start over, Hide login options (the sign-in link on an anonymous form) and Disable swipe navigation.

Two form settings that SurveyCTO-compatible workbooks can carry, Hyperlink field references and Use legacy UI, cannot be honoured by Joripo's web form; they are listed as unavailable rather than offered as switches that would do nothing.

On a phone's browser

On a touch screen, swiping left goes to the next screen and right to the previous one, unless Disable swipe navigation is on; swipes never start from a text box, a slider, the signature pad or a plug-in. Web forms record a text audit as Joripo Collect does, and an audio audit where the browser can record one.

Sending many invitations

If you send the link to many people at once, space the invitations out so that not everyone arrives in the same minute.

Plain http on a local network

On a server reached by plain http:// at a local network address (not localhost), some browser features are not available. Web forms work there anyway, but use https wherever respondents type anything sensitive; see Remote access.
